Philippians - Seeing Stars Through Prison Bars

Taught by Phillip Steyn

For the winter quarter I requested to teach from the book of Philippians. The title for the series is "Seeing Stars Through Prison Bars" based on a little couplet: "Two men sat behind prison bars, one saw mud, the other saw stars." Sometimes we may be in a prison of some sort, in bondage to some kind of an attitude or bondage to some kind of a problem. As we look out from that bondage, we can choose to look at all the mud and all the bad things or we can so choose to look at the stars. As someone once said; "you know you've had a bad day when your horn gets stuck on the freeway and you are behind a bunch of Hell's Angels". I'm sure many of us could stand up and say we've had awful days where we felt like we couldn't make it to the end of the day. Why does that happen to Christians? There is a false conception some people hold that says once you are a Christian, everything will be smooth sailing; you won't have any more problems or difficulties. That is not true! I invite you to join us on Sunday mornings as we explore Paul's prison advice to the Philippians that is also valuable for all of us.

Room 10
Talking the Talk and Walking the Walk!

Taught by Bud Frei

We will meet together and talk about the different degrees of faith we each have. We hope to discover how to become more effective regardless of our faith maturity and to really live out what we say we believe. Please bring your "sword" and a desire to participate in our discussions.

10 Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe

Taught by Randy Robinette

What possessed a military genius like Napoleon to think that the harsh Russian winter would be no match for his troops? Sure, they were well trained and well equipped, but it is not as if he had a shred of historical evidence to support his decision to march on. What caused the leading scientists and thinkers of Galileo's day to ignore evidence they could see with their own eyes and brand him as a heretic and a quack? History is filled with examples of otherwise intelligent people who acted upon amazingly goofy assumptions---- and paid a high price for doing so. Even sincere, smart Christians have no guarantee of protection from the consequences of a bad decision based on flawed assumptions. Often they are victims of spiritual urban legends according to Larry Osborne, author of 10 Dumb things Smart Christians Believe. The Bereans studied the scriptures to determine if what even Paul taught them was true. Please come to share your knowledge, questions and wisdom with others as we use Osborne`s book as a guide. The first topic will be Faith Can Fix Anything.
