Russ and Charlene say hi to everyone at Meadowlark and want them to know that they miss everyone and look forward to seeing them this summer. The following pictures offer a glimpse into their lives during their year in Oxford, England.
Their apartment is in a neighborhood named Old Marston. As the name might imply the neighborhood is populated by many old homes, many centuries old. The area was once a farming village located a few miles from the Oxford city center but is now considered a part of the city proper. Russ and Charlene’s apartment was once the school teacher’s apartment for the St. Nicholas school and was built in the mid 1800’s. The school became too small and a new school was built a few blocks away. Savannah and Jackson go to the new school. The old school now serves as a community center and fellowship hall for the St. Nicholas parish church located next door. The St. Nicholas church was built in the 12th century.
Russ’ program in Apologetics is located at Wycliffe College which is one of 39 independent colleges that collective form what is known as Oxford University. Wycliffe College is named after the 12th century Christian reformer who was the first person to translate the entire New Testament into English. The first college at Oxford was founded the 10th century and is the oldest English speaking university in the world. Wycliffe was founded in 1877. Charlene works part time at the Borders Book Store which is located right in the middle of the beautiful and fascinating center of the city of Oxford.
